Another great Czech recipe that you can try to make back home! :-)
Buns:
25 g of yeast
60 g of sugar
200 ml of milk
500 g of flour
pinch of salt
2 eggs
100 ml of sunflower oil
Vanilla sauce:
2 vanilla pods
700 ml of whole milk
50 ml of cream
60 g of sugar
1-2 tablespoons of starch
6 egg yolks
Mix yeast, a tablespoon of sugar, four tablespoons of milk and a tablespoon of flour in a bowl and leave it for about 20 minutes for the leaven to come. Then mix the rest of the flour with the remaining sugar, salt, eggs, oil and the leaven. Add the remaining milk and knead the dough. Leave it for about 45 minutes to double its volume. After, divide the dough into four parts and make “the rollers”. Each roller then cut into small pieces and make small balls (=buns). Each bun thoroughly coat with melted butter and put them all into a small baking pan – put each bun next to each other. Leave the baking pan in a warm place to rise a bit for about half an hour and then bake it (in a preheated oven at 180 °C = 356 °F) until buns get golden brown.
Meanwhile, cook the sauce. Get vanilla beans from the pods. Then bring milk, half of the sugar, vanilla beans and starch to the boil (in a deeper pan). After turn off the stove and leave it for about 15 minutes. Take the pan and put it into a “water bath”. Mix the egg yolks with the remaining sugar and gradually whisk yolks into hot - but not boiling – milk. Mix it until you get smooth creamy sauce.
Put the baked buns on plates and pour the vanilla sauce.
